The roots of current day MG Motors can be traced back to pre-partition 1920’s India when Late Shri Motilal Ghyamshyamdas (M.G) Sanghi, started a family business from very humble roots. His efforts pioneered the import of foreign vehicles such as General Motors, Rolls Royce and he became the first dealer for these luxury vehicles in the country. He was considered a true pioneer in his industry. He also began to sell a new car called the Austin Seven by the 1940’s
and established a vast network for the sales, service and spare parts of cars. Soon , his reach had spread over the regions of Jodhpur, Jaipur, Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Bikaner, Mount Abu, Indore & Mumbai. The legacy of Seth Motilal Sanghi was nurtured by his son Late Shri Amrit Kumar Sanghi who founded the A.K. Sanghi Group. In 1952, the A. K. Sanghi Group took over the distribution of the largest Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer (Then known as TELCO, now TATA Motors Ltd.) under the name and style of Supreme Motors in Delhi.
In 1981, Late Shri A.K. Sanghi and his son Shri Ajay Sanghi ( current M.D, MG Motors ) established M.G Motors to carter to the growing TATA commercial vehicle market in the rich belts of Haryana.
